This article studies an isotropic singularity in cosmological models which is defined via an `unphysical spacetime' which is conformally related to the physical one. At the isotropic singularity the conformal factor vanishes. The paper reviews results in the field and shows that the isotropic singularity is point-like, and that it cannot occur in a vacuum spacetime. Relations between the Hubble parameter and the energy conditions are studied at the isotropic singularity.
