The authors prove interesting and deep gradient estimates for the positive solutions to the semilinear parabolic equation \[ u_t=\Delta u+au\log u+bu \] on \(M ^{n } \times [0,T]\), where \(a, b\) are two real constants and \((M ^{n }, g)\) is an \(n\)-dimensional complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below. The authors prove local gradient estimates of the Li-Yau type for positive solutions of the previos equation and, as applications, they derive several parabolic Harnack inequalities. These estimates extend the ones of \textit{E. B. Davies} [Heat kernels and spectral theory. Cambridge Tracts in Mathematics, 92. Cambridge etc.: Cambridge University Press (1989; Zbl 0699.35006)], and \textit{J. Li} and \textit{X. Xu} [Adv. Math. 226, No. 5, 4456--4491 (2011; Zbl 1226.58009)].
