A number of mathematicians have investigated universal linear operators between Banach spaces (see, e.g., \textit{J. Lindenstrauss} and \textit{A. Pełczyński} [Stud. Math. 29, 275--326 (1968; Zbl 0183.40501)] and also \textit{W. B. Johnson} [Colloq. Math. 23, 267--268 (1971; Zbl 0225.47009)]). Here, the authors study the existence of \textit{universal polynomials,} showing that the situation is different in this context. Let \(\mathcal Q\) be a class of (automatically) continuous \(k\)-homogeneous polynomials between Banach spaces, with the property that a polynomial \(P \in \mathcal Q\) whenever there are linear operators \(A,B\) such that \(BPA \in \mathcal Q\). A polynomial \(P_0\) in \(\mathcal Q\) is said to be \textit{universal} for \(\mathcal Q\) is whenever \(P \in \mathcal Q\), then there exist linear operators \(A,B\) such that \(BPA = P_0\). The main results in this paper, valid for any \(k \geq 2\), are: Theorem 2.8. There are no universal \(k\)-homogeneous non-compact polynomials. Theorem 3.8. There are no universal non-unconditionally converging \(k\)-homogeneous polynomials.
