The authors concentrate on \(C^1\)-rational splines over triangles and develop a range restricted \(C^1\) interpolation scheme to scattered data. In particular, after some definitions and properties of \(C^\mu\)-rational splines on triangles, they introduce barycentric ordinates and obtain an equivalent representation of a \(C^1\)-rational spline, which is a piecewise rational convex combination of three cubic Bézier triangular patches, sharing the same boundary Bézier ordinates. They give conditions on the boundary Bézier ordinates and the normal derivatives at the edge knots, in order to ensure the nonnegativity of the \(C^1\)-rational spline. Moreover they extend their results to range restricted interpolation, where constraint surfaces are polynomial surfaces up to degree three. Finally some numerical examples are given.
