The authors introduce a finite difference method for direct numerical simulations and large eddy simulations of forced viscous incompressible flows. The algorithm is an intermediate between fully spectral solvers and standard numerical schemes, and is implemented as an accurate and relatively efficient cheap code. In order to underline the features of the method, the authors solve some simplified benchmark problems.
