An affine column independent (abbreviated as ACI) matrix \(A\) over a polynomial ring is a matrix whose each entry is a polynomial of degree at most one and no indeterminate appears in two distinct columns. \textit{Z. Huang} and \textit{X. Zhan} [Linear Algebra Appl. 434, No. 8, 1956--1967 (2011; Zbl 1256.15014)] have given a characterization of the \(m\times n\) ACI-matrices over \(F[x_1,\dots,x_k]\), all of whose completions have the same rank, where \(F\) is a finite field and has at least \(\max\{m,n+1\}\) elements. In this article, the authors extend the above result for square ACI-matrices over integral domains. Over a field one can replace the condition `constant rank' by `nonsingularity', but that is not possible for integral domains in general. As a consequence the authors generalize the above result to arbitrary fields for the condition `nonsingularity'.
