Let \(A\) be a generator of a \(C_0\)-semigroup \((T(t))_{t\geq 0}\) on a Hilbert space \(X\), and denote by \(D(A)\) its domain. In this paper, the authors study continuous-time control systems of the form \(x'(t)=Ax(t)\), \(t>0\), \(x(0)=x_0\in X\), \(y(t)=Cx(t)\), where \(C\) is a linear form on \(D(A)\), and the discrete-time control systems of the form \(x_{n+1}=Tx_n\), \(y_n=Cx_n\), \(x_0\in X\), where \(T\) is a bounded linear operator on \(X\) and \(C\in X^*\). In the first case, for \(\beta>-1\), \(C\) is said to be \(\beta\)-admissible for \(A\) if there exists \(k>0\) such that \[ \|CT(t)x_0\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}_+,t^\beta dt)}\leq k\|x_0\|_X\quad \text{for} \quad x_0\in D(A). \] For the discrete case, \(C\) is said to be \(\beta\)-admissible for \(T\) if there exists \(k>0\) such that \[ \sum_{n\geq 0}(1+n)^\beta|CT^n x|^2\leq k^2\|x\|_X^2, \quad x\in X. \] In both cases, the weighted admissibility of \(C\) implies a resolvent growth condition. The ``weighted Weiss conjecture'' states that the converse is true. The main results proved by the authors give characterizations of the weighted admissibility of control systems governed by shift operators and shift semigroups on the Hardy space \(H^2(\mathbb{D})\), the weighted Bergman space \(A^2_\alpha(\mathbb{D})=L^2_a\left(\mathbb{D},(1-|z|^2)^\alpha dm(z)\right)\) and the space \(L^2(\mathbb{R}_+, t^{-\alpha}dt)\). These results establish equivalences between the weighted admissibility of \(C\) and the fact that certain generalized Hankel operators satisfy a reproducing kernel thesis, and also provide examples of control systems satisfying the weighted Weiss conjecture.
