On the Kostant-Parthasarathy-Ranga Rao-Varadarajan determinants. II: Construction of the KPRV determinants (Q5946408): Difference between revisions

This is the second part of the trilogy (see the reviews of Part I above (Zbl 1014.17010) and Part III below (Zbl 1014.17012)). Let \(\mathfrak{g}\) be a complex semisimple finite-dimensional Lie algebra, \(U(\mathfrak{g})\) its universal enveloping algebra, \(\pi'\) a subset of the set of simple roots, and \(m\) the number of all those positive roots of \(\mathfrak{g}\) which are not linear combinations of the elements from \(\pi'\). The present paper is devoted to the construction of the KPRV determinants for \(U(\mathfrak g)\) and to the study of zeros of these determinants. The definition uses the study of the Conze embedding of \(U(\mathfrak{g})\) into the Weyl algebra \(A_m\), which was carried out in the first paper of the trilogy. It is shown that KPRV determinants control the irreducibility of generalized Verma modules, associated with \(\pi'\). The principal results are Theorem~7.5 and Corollary~7.6, which give the formulae for the degrees of zeros in the KPRV determinants. The paper is finished with a discussion of the possibility to modify the definition of KPRV determinants to take into account the question whether \(U(\mathfrak{g})\) surjects to all locally finite endomorphisms of generalized Verma modules. However, the authors are unable either to prove the existence of such modified determinants, or to compute them except in some special cases.
