The paper consists of two parts. In the first the authors discuss the concepts that are related to normality and oblateness of cones in normed spaces: pointedness, sharpness, almost reproducibility, solidity, etc. Some natural numeric characteristics are suggested and the relevant duality relations are established. In the second part [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 338, No. 1, 392--406 (2008; Zbl 1141.46005)], a few of the obtained results are clarified in the Hilbert space setting. The research of the authors is closely related to the openness of correspondences, which remains beyond discussion.
