The author discusses properties of approximate solutions of variational problems with a lower semicontinuous cost functional in regions close to the endpoints of the time interval. The solutions are assumed to be semicontinuous functions. The study generalizes the author's previous results [\textit{A. J. Zaslavski}, J. Convex Anal. 15, No. 4, 869--890 (2008; Zbl 1162.49017)] in which it has been proved that the approximate solutions of such problems are independent of the length of the interval, for all sufficiently large intervals. In the present study, the author shows that for the problem with free ends of the optimal solutions, the approximate solution is independent of the length of the interval also close to both the left and right endpoint of the time interval. In the case of a fixed initial condition, the approximate solution is found to be independent of the choice of the interval and the initial value in the region close to the right endpoint of the time interval. The approximate solutions are found in the set of all solutions of corresponding infinite horizon variational problems associated with the cost functional under consideration. No examples of applications of the obtained results are presented.
