The subject matter of this paper concerns the spectral invariance of concrete twisted convolution algebras with respect to locally compact groups and to \(\ast\)-representations. Taking a locally compact group \(G\) with a continuous \(2\)-cocycle, say \(c\), the author considers the Mackey group \(G_c\) and the respective convolution algebras \(L^1(G_c)\) and \(L^1(G,c)\) (considered as a subalgebra of the algebra \(\mathbb{B}(\mathcal{H})\) of all bounded operators on a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\)). Then he proves that, under certain conditions on \(L^1(G_c)\), the spectral invariance holds true for any element in \(L^1(G,c)\) and any faithful \(^\ast\)-representation of \(L^1(G,c)\) (on \(\mathcal{H}\)). The previous result, beyond its own importance, is applied by the author to derive a short proof of a conjecture that concerns the absorption of two particular functions by a certain Segal algebra, denoted by \(S_0(G)\). The latter algebra is known as a Feichtinger algebra, after Hans G. Feichtinger who announced it in 1979 and presented it in [\textit{H.~G. Feichtinger}, Monatsh. Math. 92, 269--289 (1981; Zbl 0461.43003)]. The aforementioned two functions appear under the name ``the canonical dual atom'' and the ``canonical tight atom'', which both are related to an element \(g\) in \(L^2(G)\), and through which any element in \(L^2(G)\) can be integrally expressed. In particular, the author is interested in those two functions in the case \(g\) is taken from \(S_0(G)\). Indeed, he elegantly tackles the aforementioned conjecture by restating it, via operator algebraic terms, and by making no use of the behavior of Gabor frames with respect to periodization, he gets the assertion. Valuable remarks are also made that illustrate the framework in which the results of the present paper are valid.
