A Kähler metric with Kähler form \(\omega\) on a compact complex manifold \(M\) is called ``Kähler-Einstein'' if \(\text{Ric} (\omega)\) is a multiple of \(\omega\). If \(c_1(M)>0\) (i.e.~if \(M\) is a Fano manifold), there is a necessary condition for the existence of a Kähler-Einstein metric: The ``Futaki character'' \(F(X)\) must vanish [\textit{A. Futaki}, Invent. Math. 73, 437--443 (1983; Zbl 0506.53030)]. In this article the author introduces a new condition on Kähler metrics on compact complex manifolds \(M\) with \(c_1(M)>0\). If \(F(X)\) vanishes, the new condition coincides with the usual ``Kähler-Einstein''-property. However, this new condition also makes sense if \(F(X)\) is not zero and it is verified that there are examples of manifolds with \(F(X)\) non-vanishing for which there exists a Kähler metric fullfilling this condition. It is further shown that metrics fullfilling this condition share some of the nice properties of Kähler-Einstein metrics.
