A sharp base for a space \(X\) is a base \(\mathcal{B}\) such that if \( (B_{n}:n\in \omega )\) is an injective sequence drawn from \(\mathcal{B}\) and \( x\in X\) with \(x\in \bigcap\nolimits_{n\in \omega }B_{n}\), then \(\left\{ \bigcap\nolimits_{i<n}B_{i}:n\in \omega \right\} \) is a local base at \(x\). \ In an earlier paper, other authors claimed to have constructed a space with a sharp base whose product with \([0,1]\) did not have a sharp base. \ In this paper it is shown that the earlier construction does not generate a regular space, and a similar construction is given which generates a Tychonoff space \(X\) which has a sharp base, but \(X\times [ 0,1]\) does not have a sharp base. \ The example has many other interesting properties as well. \ It is non-developable, pseudocompact, and Čech-complete, and it has \(G_{\delta }\)-diagonal and point-countable base.
