Recall that an operator \(T:X\mapsto Y\) is Fredholm if the range \(T(X)\) is closed and the kernel \(T^{-1}(0)\) and the cokernel \(Y/T(X)\) are finite-dimensional. In this paper, the problem of the stability of being Fredholm in the scale of real interpolation spaces is considered. Namely, given two compatible couples of Banach spaces \((X_0,X_1)\) and \((Y_0,Y_1)\) and an operator such that its restrictions to the endpoint spaces are Fredholm operators, the main result provides sufficient conditions on the parameters \(\theta\) and \(q\) for the operator to be Fredholm from \((X_0,X_1)_{\theta,q}\) to \((Y_0,Y_1)_{\theta,q}\). In the last section, possible applications of the results are discussed.
