In the paper under review, the author explicitly determines the Fourier expansion of modular forms on quaternionic exceptional groups. Let \(G(\mathbb{R})/K\) be the symmetric space associated to a reductive \(\mathbb{Q}\)-group \(G\). If \(G(\mathbb{R})/K\) has Hermitian tube structure, then \(G\) has a holomorphic discrete series representation, in which case there is a good theory of modular forms with nice Fourier expansions. For example, there are Siegel modular forms on symmetric spaces associated to \(G=\mathrm{GSp}_{2n}\), and orthogonal modular forms on symmetric domains of type IV associated to \(G=\mathrm{SO}(n,2)\). However, there are groups \(G\) without such a structure on which an obvious theory of modular forms is lacking. In 1996, \textit{B. H. Gross} and \textit{N. R. Wallach} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 481, 73--123 (1996; Zbl 0857.22012)] found a special class of quaternionic discrete series representations on some exceptional groups \(G\) which can replace the above holomorphic discrete series representations. Based on this result, the author of the present paper establishes the Fourier expansion of modular forms on quaternionic exceptional groups \(G_2\), \(F_4\), \(E_6\), \(E_7\) and \(E_8\), as well as on the reductive adjoint groups with \(G(\mathbb{R})\) isogenous to \(\mathrm{SO}(n,4)\) with \(n\geq 3\).
