The authors show that a rank 2 cluster algebra \(\mathcal{A}(b,c)\) has a basis of indecomposable positive elements if and only if it is of finite or affine type. This statement disagrees with a conjecture by \textit{V. V. Fock} and \textit{A. B. Goncharov} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 42, No. 6, 865--930 (2009; Zbl 1180.53081)].
