The author proposes a design procedure for a linear parameter varying controller for systems with matrices rationally dependent on time-varying parameters. The design objective is to ensure exponential stability of the closed-loop system and to render an integral quadratic constraint satisfied. The synthesis is described in terms of linear matrix inequality conditions. The constructed controller takes on-line measurements of time-varying system parameters into account and does not require any hypothesis on multipliers. By sub-dividing the parameter set and employing different scalings in different subregions, the author reduces the conservatism inherent to the multiplier technique. Moreover to avoid chattering, a new controller switching scheme is proposed. The methodology is illustrated by results of a numerical example originating from [\textit{A. Packard} and \textit{J. Doyle}, The complex structured singular value, Automatica 29, 71-109 (1993; Zbl 0772.93023)].
