By using the \(2\)-categorical and even \(3\)-categorical way of thinking, the author gives a development of an ``equivariant'' version of cyclic cohomology in the setting of abelian monoidal categories, such as modules or comodules over Hopf algebras or left modules over a commutative algebra. In order to do that, the author changes the definition of cyclic cohomology in monoidal categories to a more homologically pleasing derived version. As he says in the introduction, ``this change does not impact the usual cyclic cohomology, nor more generally cohomology in monoidal categories with a projective identity (Proposition 4.8). It does change the existing Hopf-cyclic cohomology in some non-semisimple examples of Hopf algebras (Remark 4.6)''.
