The derivative NLS equation has the form \[ i q_t + q_{xx} = i (|q|^2 q)_x, \] where \(q(x,t)\) is a complex-valued function. This equation was found to be integrable via inverse scattering by \textit{D. J. Kaup} and \textit{A. C. Newell} [J. Math. Phys. 19, 798--801 (1978; Zbl 0383.35015)]. Recently, the author showed that the derivative NLS equation can be integrated in time for the boundary-value problem on the half-line \(x > 0\) [Physica D 237, No. 23, 3008--3019 (2008; Zbl 1161.35503)]. The author found that the solution can be expressed in terms of the solution of a \(2 \times 2\)-matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem with jump condition specified by the initial and boundary values of \(q(x,t)\). However, for a well-posed problem, only part of the boundary values can be prescribed; the remaining boundary data cannot be independently specified, but are determined by the so-called global relation in the Fokas method. In this paper, the author presents the solution of the global relation in terms of the solution of a system of nonlinear integral equations. The solution of the global relation is constructed both in the spectral domain and in the physical domain. Although these two domains are related by a transform, each viewpoint has its own advantages. The solution in the physical domain also provides a construction of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for the derivative NLS equation on the half-line.
