Compact Riemannian manifolds have discrete spectrum, and spectral gaps are important properties and have many applications. For noncompact complete hyperbolic manifolds, the spectrum of the Laplace operator is not discrete anymore, and the essential spectrum is given by a continuous spectrum, and this reflected in resonances, or singularities of the resolvent kernel in the complex plane. In this case, spectral gaps for the essential spectrum refer to the existence of regions which contain the upper halfplane and admits only finitely many singular points. In this paper, the authors ``obtain an essential spectral gap for \(n\)-dimensional convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds with the dimension \(\delta\) of the limit set close to \(\frac{n-1}{2}\). The size of the gap is expressed using the additive energy of stereographic projections of the limit set. This additive energy can in turn be estimated in terms of the constants in Ahlfors-David regularity of the limit set.'' The proofs ``use new microlocal methods, in particular a notion of a fractal uncertainty principle.'' | |||

This additive energy can in turn be estimated in terms of the constants in Ahlfors-David regularity of the limit set.'' The proofs ``use new microlocal methods, in particular a notion of a fractal uncertainty principle.''
