The first part of the article presents a construction of a transitive parabolic unital in a commutative twisted field plane. This unital, which is proved to be new, is obtained as a union of ovals having a common point at infinity. The authors use the construction technique employed by \textit{J. W. P. Hirschfeld} and \textit{T. Szönyi} [Discrete Math. 97, 229-242 (1991; Zbl 0748.51011)]. A semifield plane is then characterized by the existence of a transitive parabolic unital such that the collineation group fixing the unital contains an affine homology. Under further assumptions this is a commutative semifield plane.
