Let G be a free abelian group with two free generators. Then G is a one- relator group, which is not a one-relator monoid. This example shows that the results of \textit{D. Perrin} and \textit{P. Schupp} [Theor. Comput. Sci. 33, 331-334 (1984; Zbl 0552.20018)] cannot be extended to the class of one-relator groups.
