The full information and state-feedback \(H_2\) control problems are solved and an explicit characterization of all optimal controllers is given. The solution is based on the generalized algebraic Riccati equation (GARE). In contrast to the state-space case, the gain matrix obtained from the GARE can, in general, be a non-\(H_2\)-optimal state feedback gain. A parametrization of all optimal static and dynamic controllers for the infinite-horizon LQR problem via state feedback is given.
