The author is interested in the asymptotic behavior of the overflow probability of a fluid queue that is fed by sessions arriving according to a Poisson process and having heavy-tailed durations during which traffic is sent at a constant rate. He treats the case that \(-\log P (D^*> t)\), \(D^*\) being the residual session duration, is slowly varying and the Poisson input rate, the buffer space and the link rate are of the form \(n\lambda\), \(nb\) and \(nc\), respectively, \(n\) tends to infinity, and \(b\) is large. The intuition behind the technical results is explained.
