In the fuzzification of concepts from ring theory, the concepts of prime and primary ideals have played an important role. There are several ways in which these concepts have been fuzzified. In this paper, a comparison of the various definitions of prime and primary fuzzy ideals is given. The strengths and weaknesses of these definitions are noted. The authors also show that the definition of the nil radical of a fuzzy ideal is equivalent to the definition of the prime radical of a fuzzy ideal.
