The contribution under review approaches a problem of extremely high interest nowadays, namely the construction of computational models of cardiac tissue. Involved here are synchronous concurrent algorithms capable of spatially modelling large biological systems, in view of a subsequent elaboration of hierarchical models. After extensive presentations (accompanied by illustrative material) of hierarchical models of the heart (and of the suggested models), viewed as algorithms, an example of SCA models of cardiac tissue is discussed in full detail. Another paragraph is dealing with the abstraction and approximation of models, again followed by convincing exemplifications; the last problem discussed is that of multilevel models. All in all, this study is recommended to all those interested in computational cardiology, but not only; biologists might find, too, extremely interesting ideas for their research.
