Let \({\mathcal B}({\mathcal H})\) (resp., \({\mathcal B}({\mathcal K})\)) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators acting on a separable infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}\) (resp., \({\mathcal K}\)). According to [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 120, No. 3, 755--760 (1994; Zbl 0842.47003)], an operator \(T\in{\mathcal B}({\mathcal H})\) is called \textit{consistent in invertibility} (abbreviated CI) if for every \(S\in{\mathcal B}({\mathcal H})\), the operators \(ST\) and \(TS\) are both invertible or both noninvertible. The CI spectrum of \(T\) is \(\sigma_{CI}(T)=\{\lambda\in\mathbb{C}:T-\lambda\text{ is not a CI operator}\}\). When \(A\in{\mathcal B}({\mathcal H})\) and \(B\in{\mathcal B}({\mathcal K})\) are given, let \(M_C\) denote the operator acting on \({\mathcal H}\oplus{\mathcal K}\) of the form \(M_C=\left(\begin{smallmatrix} A&C\\0&B\end{smallmatrix}\right)\). Among other results, the authors of the paper under review give necessary and sufficient conditions for \(M_C\) to be a CI operator and establish some identities for the CI spectrum of \(M_C\) in terms of the CI spectra of \(A\) and \(B\).
