The author constructs three bialgebras in the symmetric monoidal category of complexes of Abelian groups. These are differential graded bialgebras associated to permutohedra, associahedra and hypercubes. By forgetting the differential and taking the graded sub-bialgebra defined by the dimension zero cells, one obtains the Hopf algebra on the symmetric group introduced by \textit{C. Malvenuto} and \textit{C. Reutenauer} [J. Algebra 177, No. 3, 967--982 (1995; Zbl 0838.05100)], the Hopf algebra of the planar binary trees of \textit{J.-L. Loday} and \textit{M. O. Ronco} [Adv. Math. 139, No. 2, 293--309 (1998; Zbl 0926.16032)], and the descent Hopf algebras of Malvenuto and Reutenauer.
