The author investigates Gaussian actions through the study of their cross-product von Neumann algebra. In [\textit{I. Chifan} and \textit{A. Ioana}, Geom. Funct. Anal. 20, No. 1, 53-67 (2010; Zbl 1211.37006)] an ergodic decomposition theorem has been proved for Bernoulli actions. The current paper generalizes those results to Gaussian actions. It also proves structural results that allow to get a more accurate result at the level of von Neumann algebras. Namely, for a large class of Gaussian actions \(\Gamma\to X\), it is established that any subfactor \(N\) of \(L^\infty\rtimes\Gamma\) containing \(L^\infty(X)\) is either hyperfinite or non-Gamma and prime. Morover, a similar result is provided for Bogoliubov actions.
