The authors investigate equivalence relation \(S_\Gamma\) induced by the Bernoulli action of a countable group \(\Gamma\) on the product space \([0,1]^\Gamma\) of unit intervals, where \([0,1]^\Gamma\) is endowed with the product Lebesgue measure. This interesting survey includes resent results on \(C^*\)-algebraic methods and on solidity of von Neumann algebras by \textit{N. Ozawa} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2006, No. 1, Article ID 97560 (2006; Zbl 1114.46041); Hokkaido Math. J. 38, No. 3, 557--561 (2009; Zbl 1187.46048)], on malleable deformations of Bernoulli action by \textit{M. Abert} and \textit{N. Nikolov} [``The rank gradient from a combinatorial viewpoint'', \url{arXiv:math/0701925v3} (2008)] and on the superrigidity of malleable actions with spectral gap by \textit{S. Popa} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 21, No. 4, 981--1000 (2008; Zbl 1222.46048)]. The main theorem of the paper under review is that, for any subequivalence relation \({\mathcal R}\) of \(S_{\Gamma}\), there exists a partition \(\{X_{i}\}_{i \geq 0}\) of \([0,1]^{\Gamma }\) into \({\mathcal R}-\)invariant measurable sets such that \({\mathcal R}_{| X_{0}}\) is hyperfinite and \({\mathcal R}_{| X_{i}}\) is strongly ergodic (therefore ergodic), for every \( i \geq 1\). One of the pleasant features of this theorem is that by combining it (and some additional facts) with the proof of the results about particular Cayley graphs and treeable subequivalence relations and cost graphing by \textit{D. Gaboriau} and \textit{R. Lyons} [Invent. Math. 177, No. 3, 533--540 (2009; Zbl 1182.43002)] the authors of the paper under review get the answer on the suggestion of Gaboriau and Lyons about possible using of minimal spanning forests. In the proof of their main results the authors use the construction of the von Neumann algebra associated to an equivalence relation by \textit{J. Feldman} and \textit{C. C. Moore} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 234, 325--359 (1977; Zbl 0369.22010)]. The paper under review includes another interesting applications and a useful list of references to related works.
