Abstract: Let Gamma be a countable group and denote by CalS the equivalence relation induced by the Bernoulli action Gammacurvearrowright[0,1]Gamma, where [0,1]Gamma is endowed with the product Lebesgue measure. We prove that for any subequivalence relation CalR of CalS, there exists a partition Xiigeq0 of [0,1]Gamma with CalR-invariant measurable sets such that CalR|X0 is hyperfinite and CalR|Xi is strongly ergodic (hence ergodic), for every igeq1.
