Problems relating to the ``squeezing function'' have been studied recently by many authors. One of the results says that if a bounded domain $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ admitting a Stein neighborhood basis has a strictly pseudoconvex boundary point $p$, then $\displaystyle \lim_{z\rightarrow p} s_\Omega(z)=1$, where $s_\Omega(z)$ is the squeezing function. In 2015 at a Sanya conference, J. E. Fornæss asked the converse question: if $\Omega$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, and if $\displaystyle \lim_{z\rightarrow p} s_\Omega(z)=1$, then is the boundary of $\Omega$ strictly pseudoconvex at $p$? \par In subsequent years, both positive and negative answers to the above question have been provided in various settings. The main result of the paper under review is an affirmative answer to Fornæss's question for $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{C}^2$ and $p$ a boundary point of finite type. For the proof, the authors use the scaling method.
