The authors consider the initial-value problem in three spatial dimensions for the wave equation \([\partial_{t}^{2}-\Delta+V(x)]u=0\) with \(u(0,x)=0\) and \(u_{t}(0,x)=f(x),\) where the potential \(V\) belongs to a particular Kato class. Using a spectral representation of the solution and some suitable resolvent estimates, an optimal decay estimate is obtained for the \(L^{\infty}\) norm of \(u(t,\cdot).\)
