The authors study the second-order in time equations with delay of the form \[ \ddot u+ k\dot u+Au(t)+F(u(t))+M(u_t)=0,\;t>0, \] in a Hilbert space \(H\) with the initial condition \[ u_0=u_0(\theta)\equiv u(\theta)=\varphi(\theta)\;\text{for}\;\theta \in [-h,0],\;\varphi\in W, \] where \(h>0\) is the (maximal) retardation time and \[ W=C\left([-h,0];D(A^{\frac 12})\right)\cap C^1([-h,0];H). \] The constructed solutions generate a dynamical system in a \(C^1\)-type space over a delay time interval with compact global and exponential attractors of finite fractal dimension. Applications to plate and wave models are presented.
