The authors discuss the contraction property associated to the \(n\times n\) system of equations \(\partial_t u+\partial_x f(u)=0\), \(t>0\), \(x \in \mathbb R\) in \(L_p\), which is endowed with a strictly convex entropy. It is shown that intermediate shocks of two-dimensional isentropic magnetodynamics do not verify any established contraction property. The contraction properties are investigated for contact discontinuities of the Euler system.
