The authors study global in time solvability of the free boundary problem for the one dimensional heat conductive compressible Navier-Stokes system when the viscosity coefficient depends on the density and the heat conductivity coefficient depends on the temperature. The considered system is degenerate near the free boundary fluid-vacuum. The method of Lagrangian trajectories is used to derive global energy estimates. The crucial property is that the Jacobians between these coordinates are bounded from above and below by positive constants.
