The authors discuss a free boundary problem for the compressible one-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations \(\rho_t+(\rho u)_x=0\), \((\rho u)_t+(\rho u^2)_x+(A \rho^{\gamma})_x= (\mu(\rho) u_x)_x -\rho g\), \(0<x<\Gamma(t),\) where \(\Gamma(t)\) is a moving point. Initial and boundary conditions are posed. The authors prove the regularity of global solutions for the problem when the viscosity coefficient \(\mu(\rho)\) degenerates.
