The aim of this paper is to prove a Thom isomorphism theorem for differential forms in the setting of transverse Lie algebra actions on foliated manifolds and foliated vector bundles. This paper is organized as follows: Section 2 deals with some preliminaries. Section 3 deals with the Thom isomorphism, transgression and relative forms, the Thom-Gysin sequences. In this expository section the authors review the proof of the Thom isomorphism theorem for differential forms on vector bundles over manifolds given by \textit{P.-E. Paradan} and \textit{M. Vergne} [``Equivariant relative Thom forms and Chern characters'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:0711.3898}], which is a translation into de Rham theory of \textit{M. F. Atiyah}'s proof of Bott periodicity [Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 19, 113--140 (1968; Zbl 0159.53501)]. Section 4 deals with the equivariant basic Thom isomorphism and Section 5 with Riemannian foliations and normal bundles. The paper is supported by appendices on Cartan-Chern-Weil theory and fibre integration.
