The asymptotic number of rooted maps on general surfaces was studied as a continuation of the work initiated by \textit{E. A. Bender} and \textit{E. R. Canfield} [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 43, 244-257 (1986; Zbl 0606.05031)]. It was derived for the number of \(n\)-vertex rooted 2-connected maps as \(n\to\infty\) on the surface of type \(g\) that the generating function \(\vec\Delta_ g(n)\sim\vec t_ g(An)^{5(g-1)/2}(27/2)^ n\) in the case of orientable surfaces, and in the case of non-orientable surfaces \(\tilde\Delta_ g(n)\sim\tilde t_ g(An)^{5(g-1)/2}(27/2)^ n\), where \(\vec t_ g\) and \(\tilde t_ g\) are constants and \(A=3^{6/5}/2^{7/5}\).
