    The Sobolev spaces \(L^p_s,\) \(1\leq p\leq \infty,\) \(s\in {\mathbb R},\) are defined in the usual way via the Fourier transform \({F}\) on \({\mathbb R}^n.\) The modulation spaces \(M^{p,q}_s,\) \(1\leq q\leq \infty,\) are defined with the norm \[ \|f\|_{M_s^{p,q}}=\left(\sum_{k\in {\mathbb Z}^n}\left(\int_{{\mathbb R}^n} |\varphi(D-k)f(x)|^p dx\right)^{q/p}\right)^{1/q}, \] where \(\varphi(D-k)f(x)= F^{-1}(\varphi(\xi-k) (Ff)(\xi))(x)\) and \(\varphi\in S({\mathbb R}^n),\) \(\text{supp}\,\varphi\subset [-1,1]^n,\) \(\sum \varphi(x-k)=1,\) \(x\in {\mathbb R}^n.\) The authors solve completely the problem of the embedding between \(L^p_s\) and \(M^{p,q}_s.\) An application to the Fourier multiplier \(E^{i|D|^\alpha}\), \(\alpha>0,\) is also given.
