By using simple examples, this paper illustrates the kinds of results one may expect to obtain by using fractional calculus in model-reference adaptive control. Two approaches are considered. In the first one fractional derivatives are used for the adjustment rules, and in the second one it is the reference model itself which is fractional. The references in the introduction are incomplete, and in the reference [\textit{G. Jumarie}, Int. J. Syst. Sci. 24, 1113-1131 (1993; Zbl 0771.60043)] stochastic diferential equations of fractional order have been used to solve some problems in automatic control.
