Let \(K\) be a number field; for a prime ideal \({\mathfrak p}\), let \(\pi_{\mathfrak p}\) denote the natural projection of algebraic integers in \(K\) to their residue class modulo \({\mathfrak p}\). \textit{H. W. Lenstra jun.} [Astérisque 61, 121--131 (1979; Zbl 0401.12005)] has shown, assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, that if the class group of \(K\) is cyclic, then every ideal class generating the class group is Euclidean. In this article, the author transfers the methods developed by \textit{M. Harper} and \textit{M. R. Murty} [Can. J. Math. 56, No. 1, 71--76 (2004; Zbl 1048.11080)] to this situation and proves that any ideal class generating the class group is Euclidean if \(K\) has infinitely many units and if the number of prime ideals \({\mathfrak p}\) with norm less than \(x\) for which \(\pi_{\mathfrak p}\) is surjective is \(\gg x/\log^2 x\).
