In their paper [Duke Math. J. 74, No.~1, 19--44 (1994; Zbl 0818.35123)], \textit{S. Klainerman} and \textit{M. Machedon} proved that the Cauchy problem for the Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation in \(\mathbb R^{3+1}\) is globally well posed in the Coulomb gauge in \(H^s_x\) for \(s\geq 1\). In the paper under review this result is extended to indices \(s>\sqrt{3}/2\). The proof is based on a local well-posedness result, essentially due to \textit{S. Cuccagna} [Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 24, No. 5--6, 851--867 (1999; Zbl 0929.35151)] and on the method of almost conservation laws, introduced in previous authors' works. The almost conservation laws method allows to control the solution for long times and, consequently, to extend the local solution to a global one.
