For a partition \(\lambda\) of \(n\), let \({\mathcal T}^\lambda\) be the set of all permutations in \(S_n\) which are mapped by the Robinson-Schensted correspondence on tableaux of shape \(\lambda\). (In Kazhdan-Lusztig theory, \({\mathcal T}^\lambda\) is called a two-sided cell.) The author shows that the elements of minimal length in \({\mathcal T}^\lambda\) are exactly the elements of maximal length in conjugated parabolic (i.e. Young) subgroups \(S_c\) while the elements of maximal length in \({\mathcal T}^\lambda\) are the longest ones in the set of minimal right coset representatives of \(S_c\). He also gives a characterization of these elements in terms of particular tableaux.
