The well-known generalisation of Abel's binomial theorem by Hurwitz has \(n\) free variables. The author gives a further generalisation in \(n^ 2\) free variables with a combinatorial proof. His formula also contains as special cases the binomial theorem, the Vandermonde convolution, Rothe's identity, some \(q\)-generalisations of Cayley's formula, and a recent formula of Louck applied to the Mellin-expansion of algebraic functions.
