A spectral multidomain algorithm for the approximation of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in geometries of high aspect ratio is considered. For two-dimensional problems, a Chebyshev collocation method and an extended influence matrix technique are used. The continuity conditions at the interfaces are also computed by using an influence technique. The work is also described for three-dimensional problems with one homogeneous direction. The accuracy is studied in dependence on the number of subdomains. Finally, the authors present an application to the Rayleigh-Bénard convection in a cavity of large aspect ratio.
