The author investigates strong solutions of wave equations damped with a linear time-dependent distributed dissipation. He proves that the energy of a system decays to zero with an explicit and precise decay rate estimate under sharp assumptions on the feedback. The estimates are optimal for the one-dimensional problem. Moreover, some interesting estimates for weak solutions are presented.
