Inspired by \textit{L. Accardi} and \textit{S. V. Kozyrev} [Chaos Solitons Fractals 12, No. 14--15, 2639--2655 (2001; Zbl 1016.46041)], the authors define the interesting concept of a semigroup of completely positive definite kernels (CPD-semigroup). They completely determine the structure of a type I product system by using its associated CPD-semigroup. They show that type I product systems with a central unit may be embedded into a time ordered Fock module and give criteria to decide whether this Fock module is generated by such a subsystem or not. It is proved that the set of contractive positive endomorphisms is order isomorphic to the set of CPD-semigroups dominated by the CPD-semigroup associated with the type I system. One of the main results of the paper is the equivalence of the following statements: 1. Bounded derivations with values in a von Neumann module are inner. 2. The generator of a normal uniformly continuous completely positive (CP-) semigroup on a von Neumann algebra has a Christensen-Evans form. 3. The GNS-system of a normal uniformly continuous CP-semigroup on a von Neumann algebra has a central unital unit. One should note that the implication (1)\(\Rightarrow\) (2) was obtained by \textit{E. Christensen} and \textit{D. E. Evans} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 20, 358--368 (1979; Zbl 0448.46040)]. The paper ends with three appendices. The first appendix is devoted to extend the analysis of morphisms of time ordered Fock modules. In the second one, the authors encode information on the GNS-system of a CPD-semigroup into a single CP-semigroup on a bigger algebra by following an idea of \textit{L. Accardi} and \textit{S. V. Kozyrev} [loc. cit.]; and finally in the third, they rephrase the form of generators of uniformly continuous CP-semigroups that appeared in \textit{E. Christensen} and \textit{D. E. Evans} [loc. cit.] in the language of Hilbert modules.
