The present paper deals with the global bifurcation of periodic orbits of a three-dimensional system. For the three-dimensional system with only one first integral, the authors derive the Melnikov functions. By analyzing the properties of the Melnikov functions, they obtain conditions for the existence of space periodic orbits which bifurcate from a family of periodic orbits and center, respectively. Finally, the authors as an application develop the approach in the paper, study the Poincaré bifurcation of a modified van der Pol-Duffing electronic circuit, which was only analyzed locally in the previous studies.
