Let \(M_ 0\) be a compact, strictly convex hypersurface of dimension \(n\geq 2\), without boundary, smoothly embedded in \(\mathbb R^ {n+1}\) and represented locally by some immersion \(\varphi_ 0:U\to \mathbb R^ {n+1}\). The author considers the family of maps \(\varphi_ t=\varphi (\cdot, t)\) evolving according to \[ \begin{gathered}\frac {\partial}{\partial t}\varphi (x,t)=\{h(t)-F(\mathcal W(x,t))\}\nu (x,t),\\ \varphi (\cdot, t)=\varphi_ 0, \quad t>0, x\in U\end{gathered} \] where \(\mathcal W(x,t)\) and \(\nu (x,t)\) are the matrix of the Weingarten map and the outer unit normal of \(M_ t =\varphi_ t(U)\) at \(\varphi_ t(x)\), respectively. If \(F\) satisfies some technical conditions and \[ h(t)=h_ k(t) = \frac {\int_{M_ t}F(\mathcal W)E_{k+1}\,d\mu}{\int_{M_ t}E_{k+1}\,d\mu}, \] where \(E_{l}\) is the \(l\)-th symmetric function of the principal curvatures of \(M_ t\) then the evolution equation has a smooth solution \(M_ t\) for all times \(t\geq 0\) and the \(M_ t\)'s converge, when \(t\to \infty\), in the \(C^ \infty\)-topology, to a sphere with the same mixed volume \(V_{n-k}\) as \(M_ 0\). The paper follows the framework of [Math. Z. 246, No. 1--2, 155--166 (2004; Zbl 1062.53057)] but the author makes some modifications for the more general \(F\). In particular, he uses the elliptic and parabolic equations to establish long-time existence of solutions to the flow equation. As an application, the author gives a new proof of the Minkowski inequalities in convex geometry.
